Northfield Mount Hermon School
Ford Cottage
Ford Cottage, the Head of School’s residence at Northfield Mount Hermon, is a stately Georgian mansion built in 1911. Over the years, the home had fallen into disrepair—its worn finishes, outdated kitchen, antiquated systems, and poor energy performance no longer reflected the School’s stature or met the needs of a modern family.
Northfield Mount Hermon engaged Bread Loaf to provide Integrated Project Management services for the comprehensive restoration of both the interior and exterior. The project included redesigning the entry, south porch, kitchen, and bathrooms; replacing obsolete heating, electrical, and plumbing systems; upgrading energy efficiency; and installing a new elevator. Bread Loaf also coordinated complete lead abatement throughout the residence to meet State of Massachusetts Lead Law requirements.
Following the successful completion of Ford Cottage, the School again turned to Bread Loaf for planning, design, and estimating services for improvements to Bullman House and Mayberry House.
