Otter Creek Brewery Renovations

Otter Creek Brewery is a craft brewery in Middlebury, Vermont. In 1995 the brewer’s popularity and expanding product line led to the need for a new facility. Bread Loaf was selected to provide Design-Build services to design and construct a new brewery and navigate challenging state and local code regulations pertaining to development of the plant’s brewing, bottling and cold storage operations.

The original facility features six external fermentation tanks, an internal fermentation cellar, cold storage, automated bottling, filling, and packaging line behind a glass façade that provides ample natural light into the plant and views of the Green Mountains to the East. The facility also included corporate offices, a retail store and a tasting room.

In 2015, to accommodate growing popularity and demand for the brewery’s craft beers, Bread Loaf was again selected for two expansion projects. The first extended an existing mezzanine to allow highly valuable storage space to be added without expanding the building footprint. At the end of 2015, Bread Loaf embarked on an ambitious 8,000 SF brew house expansion project with new state of the art brewing and bottling equipment, designed and manufactured in Germany, that allowed the brewery to increase their capacity from 60,000 barrels to 200,000 barrels per year, making them one of the largest craft brewers in the country. Both projects were planned and executed without interruption to their production operations
