Wilmington Public Safety Facility

Summary

When Hurricane Irene struck the Town of Wilmington in 2011, torrential rain and flash flooding inundated the town’s Police and Fire Departments. Relocating the town’s emergency response services outside of the flood zone became a priority for the town. Bread Loaf was selected to conduct a feasibility study for the relocation of these services. The results allowed the Fire and Police Departments to choose the best site for their new Public Safety Facility and present the conclusions to the town. The concept received overwhelming support from the community and the project came to fruition.

Bread Loaf was then selected to build the new 16,000 square foot, two-story facility which provides much-needed upgrades for both the Fire and Police Departments. The Fire  Department occupies the ground level and includes five apparatus bays, a gear room, training room, conference room, day and dining room, bunk rooms and hazmat storage, as well as offices. The Police Department is on the main level and features a sally port, booking, dispatch and patrol rooms, training rooms, an evidence room, holding room, conference room and offices.
