Simpson Dining Hall and Harris-Millis Commons Renovations
Bread Loaf’s renovation of UVM’s Simpson Dining Hall involved a complete redesign of the facility to increase energy efficiency, enhance the dining experience and create a new internal entryway connecting Mason, Simpson and Hamilton Halls.Upgrades to the dining hall created new “food station neighborhoods” in the servery areas, and the main kitchen work area was renovated to feature exhibition cooking as well as specialty order and delivery platforms. The completed reconfiguration and renovation work included new mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure and fire protection upgrades. New finishes were installed throughout the entire dining area, additional ADA compliant restrooms were created, a new connector hallway was provided to the adjacent student housing and the adjoining lobbies were reconfigured.
Green Building/Sustainable Design

- Waste management plan - 63% of all construction waste was diverted as part of project
Harris-Mills Complex
The Harris-Millis Complex, originally built in 1969, includes two three-story residence buildings connected by a two-story dining facility and common area. Bread Loaf constructed a new addition to increase dining capacity, expanded the first floor servery into a food court with multiple stations and installed an elevator to conform to accessibility requirements.
