Stowe Electric
Stowe Electric
The Stowe Electric Department’s administrative headquarters and maintenance operations had long been located on two separate properties on opposites sides of the Stowe Village. To provide more efficient service to the community, Stowe Electric purchased a site along the Little River in the Moscow Village Historic District in an effort to consolidate their operations.
Stowe Electric engaged Bread Loaf to plan, design and construct a new office building and a 6-bay garage building on the site. To blend in with the 19th century village context, the office building addresses the street and is designed in the manner of a Greek Revival house. The garage is tucked behind the “house” and detailed similar to a weathered, wood outbuilding.
The design and permit approval process involved considerable coordination and consultation with neighbors and the Stowe Development Review Board. The resulting buildings fit seamlessly into the neighborhood.
